CARBONDALE, Ill. – As we get closer and closer to the end of the school year at Southern Illinois, spring Saluki athletics continue to heat up. Softball and baseball are roughly in the middle of their seasons while track and field and women's golf are in action as well this week.

Softball lost a second straight conference series this past weekend, dropping two of three to Belmont.
In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, the Bruins shut out the Salukis, 7-0. SIU only mustered three hits.
SIU then evened up the series with a 5-1 win in game two on Saturday. Sydney Potter hit a homer on her way to three RBIs while Emily Williams and Amanda Knutson drove in the other Southern runs. In the circle, Brooklynn Danielson and Emily Delgado combined for the win while allowing just one run.
In the series finale on Sunday, Belmont took the series with a 3-1 win. Williams drove in the lone SIU run while Danielson threw a shutout through six innings before allowing three runs in the seventh.
