Billy Reed named Academic All-District

Billy Reed was named to the 2016 Academic All-District 5 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today. Reed is now eligible for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced in early December. Reed was one of two wide receivers to earn the honor in District 5, which is comprised of all Division I football programs in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.

Reed earned Academic All-District 5 for the second-straight year. Reed was an All-MVFC honoree last year after catching 56 passes for 805 yards, both of which rank in the top-10 in SIU single-season history. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in May 2016 with a 3.72 GPA and a degree in finance. In his SIU career, Reed has 99 catches for 1,277 yards and eight touchdowns.

Saluki Football players have earned 19 Academic All-District honors in the last nine seasons. Reed is the first two-time Academic All-District Saluki since Corey Boemer and Tyler Williamson each earned that honor in both 2013 and 2014.
