SIU wins three of four matches in rematch against Tennessee

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Saluki men's tennis team played an impromptu four matches in Gulf Shores today against players from the University of Tennessee. SIU won three of the four matches, with all but one being decided by a tiebreaker or third set.
I'm happy with our results today. We needed a good response after a tough loss yesterday. We fought for every point, and I am happy with our resolve," SIU head coach Dann Nelson said.
Yesterday the Salukis fell in only their second loss of the season to Troy University. SIU's first loss of the season came to Tennessee in the first match of the Salukis' spring campaign. The Salukis fell 7-0 in the teams' last meeting, compared to winning three of the four matches against Tennessee today.
Piotr Baranski's record remains unblemished with a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 0-1 (10-7) win against Srdjan Jakovljevic. Alex Pozo and Wilder Pimentel were able to pick up wins against Sunjay Bhat and Jack Schipansi as well. SIU's senior Jonny Rigby battled, but ultimately fell to Timo Stodder, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (6).
The Salukis will return to the Midwest to take on Saint Louis University on Thursday.
