Price, Sauer win event titles at Joey Haines Invitational

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Saluki throwers took part in the Joey Haines Invitational, hosted by SEMO over the weekend, winning a pair of event titles and setting several personal bests.
DeAnna Price was one of two Salukis to win event titles Saturday, winning the hammer throw with a toss of 71.47m (234-06). It marks the 10th longest throw in NCAA history, and while Price remains third all-time, she now has three of the top-10 furthest throws in NCAA history. The Moscow Mills, Mo., native also took second in the shot put and third in the discus, with her mark of 49.27m (161-08) in the discus representing the longest throw of the season in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Brad Sauer helped make it a clean sweep for the Dawgs in the hammer, taking home a win with a mark of 62.12m (203-10). Nate Dyer threw a personal-best 55.45m (181-11) to finish fifth while Isaac Ingram also notched a new lifetime-best with a mark of 54.54m (178-11).
Freya Block was the runner-up to Price in the hammer, throwing 58.19m (190-11), and later finished seventh in the discus with a mark of 44.36m (145-06). Former Saluki Alex Morgan won the discus unattached, throwing 50.77m (166-07) to seal the victory.
A pair of Saluki distance runners also competed over the weekend, as Oscar Medina and Brandon Shemonia took second and third, respectively at the Distance Carnival, hosted by San Francisco State. Medina ran the eighth-fastest 10k in SIU Track and Field history, finishing the race in 29:48.01. Shemonia's time of 29:52.72 is the 10th-fastest time in SIU Track and Field history.
The Salukis return to competition on Friday, April 8 at the Tiger Track Classic, hosted by Auburn University.
