CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois could not match Bradley's offense in a 7-1 loss to the Braves on Friday night at Itchy Jones Stadium.

"We just did not take good enough swings in the game," said head coach Ken Henderson. "They beat us in every area tonight and they just played better than us."

Both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings of play, but the Braves (26-19, 10-9 MVC) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning behind an RBI single from Andy Shadid. The visitors took control of the game between the sixth and eighth innings, scoring six more runs for a 7-0 advantage over the Salukis (30-22-1, 11-9 MVC).

SIU got some offense going in the bottom of the eighth, scoring a run to make it a 7-1 game. Back-to-back singles from Connor Kopach and Ryan Smith put a pair of runners on for the Salukis. After flyball out advanced Kopach to third, Logan Blackfan drove in his 48th RBI of the season on an RBI single.

The Saluki offense was led by Blackfan and Smith who had two hits each. Kopach's hit in the eighth inning was his 100th in an SIU uniform.

Saturday's game between the Salukis and Braves will determine who will earn the third and fourth seeds in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. If SIU wins, they will be the third seed, while a loss will puts them as the fourth seed. First pitch is at 2 p.m. with a pregame ceremony set to honor the SIU senior class.
