SIU Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - SIU's track and field team wrapped up regular season competition at the Billy Hayes Invitational, hosted by Indiana University Friday night.
With one week until the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, the weekend was used as a chance to rest for most of the Salukis. However, those that made the trek to IU made the most of their opportunity, with three winning event titles and four setting new PRs.
Kemar Jones won the 110-meter hurdles with a PR of 13.86. It marks the third best time this season in the MVC, and is tied for the 13th fastest time in the NCAA West Region. The St. Phillip, Barbados native also passed Emmanuel Daux to move into sixth on SIU's all-time list.
Tyjuana Eason won the 100-meter dash with a PR of 11.80. The time is the eighth fastest in school history and the fifth fastest in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.
Tyrone Echols ran a personal-best 10.68 to take second in the 100m dash. On the women's side, Chrissa Harris won the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 24.52.
In the men's pole vault, Southern claimed three of the top-four spots led by Nathan Schuck. Connor Curley of Indiana State, the 2016 MVC indoor pole vault champion, won with a clearance of 17-00.75, while Schuck, the defending MVC outdoor champion, cleared 16-10.75 to take second. Jonathan Walsh cleared 16-06.75 (5.05m) to take third and Chad Weaver was the fourth and final vaulter to clear 16ft. with a final clearance of 16-02.75 (4.95m).
SIU swept the triple jump, with alumna Malaikah Love's jump of 42-06.25 (12.96m) proving to be the winner. Kezia Martin took second with a season-best jump of 39-01 (11.91m) while Jalen Peet took third.
SIU throws coach J.C. Lambert, competing unattached, won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 235-09 (71.86m).
The Salukis are back in action at the 2016 MVC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Indiana State on May 26-28.
