CARBONDALE, Ill. - Seth LaRue will be the volunteer assistant coach for Saluki Baseball, head coach Ken Henderson announced on Sunday. LaRue spent the last three years at Campbell University as both a player and a coach.
Â
"Seth is a great fit with our program, and we are excited to add him to the staff," Henderson said. "He is a bright and hardworking young man with a high baseball IQ. He has experienced success on the field, coming to us from a very good Campbell program where he helped lead a team to the NCAA Tournament."
Â
LaRue started his college baseball career at Olney Central College, where he was a two-year starter and a two-time Academic All-Conference honoree. At Campbell, LaRue played in 97 games over two seasons, helping the program win 73 games and make the 2014 NCAA Tournament. In that NCAA Regional in 2014, LaRue hit a home run for the Fighting Camels against South Carolina and had an RBI in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win. As a senior in 2015, LaRue hit .327 with 30 RBIs, and he stole 10 bases, as well. He was a two-time member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
Â
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity Coach Henderson has given me," LaRue said. "This coaching staff has done a tremendous job of bringing back a winning culture and attitude to a historic program. This is an exciting time to be a Dawg, and I'm ready to help take this team to the next level."
Â
LaRue will work with catchers and coach first base at SIU, and he will also assist with hitters.
