SALUKIS HOST MURRAY STATE IN RENEWED RIVALRY
- SIU hosts regional rival Murray State at Saluki Stadium on September 17 at 6 p.m. CT.Â
- SIU and Murray State have not met in football since 2003. The rivalry dates back to 1927, but the schools have only played 20 times in the last 90 years.
- SIU holds a 6-2-2 advantage in games played in Carbondale. The Salukis last hosted Murray in 2003, a 32-7 SIU win.
- SIU is hosting Family Weekend on the Carbondale campus.Â
- The Salukis are also hosting the sixth-annual Black Out Cancer game, which raises money for Southern Illinois Healthcare's comprehensive cancer treatment center in southern Illinois.Â
- Fans were able to bid on SIU's custom-made black jerseys in the weeks leading up to the game. Winning bidders were awarded a jersey and given the option to place the name of their choosing on the back of the jersey. Most choose to honor a loved one affected by cancer.Â

HILL'S FIRST WIN
- SIU head coach Nick Hill earned his first win as a collegiate head coach last weekend. The Salukis beat Southeast Missouri, 30-22.
- With Hill's win, Saluki coaches improved to 10-11 in their home debuts.Â
- More than 10,000 fans came out to watch Hill's home debut, the third-biggest home crowd for a non-Family Weekend and non-Homecoming game in the last five years (19 such games):

- Saluki Hall-of-Famers Jerry Kill and Carl Mauck were on the sideline and in the locker room after the win.Â
DAWGS AT NIGHT
- SIU won another home night game last weekend vs. Southeast Missouri. Since lights were re-installed for Saluki Football prior to the 2002 season, the Salukis are 29-7 under the lights at home.
- Since the start of the 2014 season, Southern has won eight of its last nine home night games, including four in a row.
- Last year, SIU was 3-0 in home night games, and two of those wins came over ranked opponents.Â
- The last time SIU met Murray State, September 13, 2003, was the sixth night game under the new lights at McAndrew Stadium. SIU won, 32-7.
WE WILL PROTECT THIS ROCK
- SIU has lost only one turnover through two games, which is tied for sixth in the FCS.
- Among teams who have played at least two games, it's tied for fourth.Â
- Only 20 teams nationally have played two games and lost one or fewer turnovers.Â
- SIU is one of 26 teams in the nation to have zero interceptions.Â
- Last year, Southern Illinois had 25 turnovers, which ranked 105th of 123 FCS teams.
APPROACHING MILESTONES
- Chase Allen is 1.5 tackles for loss away from 20 in his career.Â
- Allen is nine tackles away from 275 in his career. He will become the 18th player in program history to reach 275 tackles.
- Daquan Isom is 379 yards away from 2,000 all-purpose yards in his career. He has 1,621 all-purpose yards in 11 career games.
- Isom has 698 career rushing yards, 52 away from 750 career yards.Â
- Josh Straughan is 368 yards passing away from 1,000 yards passing this season. He averaged 316 yards over the first two weeks.
- Including his statistics from Stillman College, Straughan surpassed 6,000 career passing yards last week vs. SEMO.
- Billy Reed is 16 catches away from 100. He is on pace to become the 13th player in program history to eclipse 100 career catches.
- Reed is two receiving yards away from cracking the top-20 in program history. Reed surpassed 1,000 career receiving yards in the season opener at Florida Atlantic.
- Jimmy Jones surpassed 500 career receiving yards last week. Darrell James (426), Daquan Isom (455) and Israel Lamprakes (493) are all approaching 500 career receiving yards.
