Southern notched its first win on the 2016-17 season today at the UIC Fall Invitational in convincing fashion. Every Saluki at the event finished within the top-seven on the individual leaderboard.

SIU shot a 304 as a team to finish five strokes ahead of second place Bradley. Brooke Cusumano and Sun Jung finished tied for second place at 3-over-par 75. This was the second-straight event that Cusumano finished as the runner up and it was Jung's best performance of the season so far. Mihelich said she was pleased with Jung's breakthrough. She hadn't shot a round in the mid-70s yet this season.

Alice Ho and Kristie Yang both tied for fourth at 5-over-par 77 and Hanna Netisingha was tied for seventh at 6-over-par 78.

"Kristie really stepped it up today. She didn't play in the first two tournaments. This was her first round in the lineup and we counted her score. When that happens I'm pretty pleased," Head coach Alexis Mihelich said.

This was SIU's first tournament win since September of 2015 when the team won the Loyola Invitational, which the Salukis will play in on Monday. This was the second-straight season that SIU won the UIC Fall Invitational and the 15^th team win of Mihelich's career at SIU.

Southern, and all of the teams that played in the UIC Fall Invitational, will be back in action on Monday at the Loyola Chicago Rambler Invitational in Flossmoor, Illinois.

""This is really good momentum for Loyola's event Monday and Tuesday," Mihelich said. "We're ready to put it all together."
