Men's Tennis team goes 20-7 at River Forest Collegiate Invitational

The Southern Illinois men's tennis team finished 20-7 overall at the River Forest Collegiate Invitational during three days of competiton over the weekend.
The Salukis won three singles flight and one doubles flight. Wilder Pimentel won at No. 1 singles, Piotr Baranski captured No. 2 singles, and Michal Kianicka was victorious at No. 3 singles. Alez Pozo took second place at the No. 4 spot. Kianicka and Pimentel also won first place at No. 1 doubles.
"The team played well overall," said coach Jonny Rigby. "It was the first tournament of the year and we won 20 out of 27 matches in a strong field, so we are happy as a team."
The tournament was the first time Kianicka has played for the Salukis since February. Kianicka was granted a medical hardship waiver due to injury.
"It was great for us to see Mike competing again," Rigby said. "He had a strong first tournament back going undefeated."
"There are a lot of positives to take from this tournament," Rigby added. "We will use this tournament to see where we need to improve. Hopefully, we can take our winning momentum into the next tournament."
The team continues their tournament play season at the Purdue Invite on Friday in West Lafayette, Ind.
