The Saluki men's tennis team finished the weekend with a 13-9 record at the Purdue invitational. SIU was led by Piotr Baranski, who won Flight B singles, and Michal Kianicka and Alex Pozo, who claimed Flight A doubles.
"We had good performances overall," coach Jonny Rigby said. "It was a strong field, but I believe we are as good as any of the teams there."
Baranksi defeated Nemanja Guzina of Ball State in the final match of the Flight B Singles, 6-1, in both sets. While Kianicka and Pozo upended Bradley Luetschwager and David Beasly of IUPUI in the final match of Flight A Doubles.
"I was really proud of Alex, because he wasn't feeling too well after the first day, but he dug deep and came away with a couple of big wins," Rigby said. "It was a big deal that Mike and Alex defended the Flight A doubles title."
The Salukis continue their tournament play as they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Oct. 1, 2016 for the ITA All-American.
