Josh Straughan named MVFC Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois quarterback Josh Straughan has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Sunday evening. Straughan threw for 367 yards on Saturday at Florida Atlantic.

Straughan set an SIU record for passing yards in a debut with 367 yards on Saturday. The graduate transfer from Stillman College went 36-for-51 with a touchdown and no interceptions. He led an SIU offense that put up 530 yards and outgained the Owls by 73 yards. His 367 yards were an MVFC high for Week 1 and ranked fourth nationally.

Straughan and the Salukis host Southeast Missouri for the team's home opener on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Saluki Stadium. The game marks the home debut for head coach Nick Hill. Tickets can be purchased online at SIUSalukis.com or by calling 877-SALUKIS.
