Men's Golf in 14th place after Day One at Arizona Intercollegiate

In an 18-team field of mostly BCS programs, the Southern Illinois men's golf team rallied three spots in the standings to 14th place before Round Two at the Arizona Intercollegiate was suspended due to darkness.
Playing in their first tournament of the spring season, the Salukis were +35 after 18 holes and trailed tournament leader Oregon by 26 strokes. In the second round Southern passed New Mexico State, Gonzaga and Louisiana Tech through 14 holes.
Individually, Luke Gannon led the Salukis with a 78 in the first round and was tied for 42nd place at the Sewailo Golf Club.
"This group worked hard over the offseason and if we can build off of some of the great things we did this fall, we can go out there and compete with any team this week," said head coach Justin Fetcho. "We have to remain relaxed, loose and have fun because that is when we play our best golf."
The second round will resume on Tuesday morning, followed by round three in the afternoon. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.
