
Hazel, Kern named MVC Athletes of the Week

Hazel and Kern each earned the first Valley weekly honors of their respective careers on Tuesday after both set PRs at the Indiana Relays. Hazel notched personal-bests in the 200m and the 400m, while Kern broke the school record in the shot put.Â

Warren Hazel continued his sensational sophomore campaign, as he clocked the 11th-best 400m time in the nation at the Indiana Relays on Saturday. The Old Roads, St. Kitts native won the 400m with a personal-best time of 46.85, which is not only the top time in the Missouri Valley Conference but also the fourth-best mark in school history. He also set an indoor personal-best in the 200m, running 21.46 to finish third in a crowded field.
Male Field Athlete of the Week:Â Jared Kern, Southern Illinois, Jr.
Jared Kern uncorked a toss of 65'-5.50" (19.95m) to win the shot put title at the Indiana Relays Friday night. The Harlem, Ill. native is now ranked second in the NCAA after an impressive series in the circle Friday night in which he also shattered the school record. Kern notched three throws of 65' or further, becoming the first Saluki to surpass 65' indoors.
