The Saluki women's golf team will compete in the Chi-Town Classic hosted by Chicago State University at Harborside International Golf Course on Monday.
Â
SIU's Head Coach Alexis O'Brien started her coaching career at Chicago State. She coached four seasons and started the tournament at CSU in 2008.
Â
"This is my first time going back to Chicago State as a Saluki since leaving in 2011." O'Brien said. "I am glad to go back where it all started for me."Â
Â
The last time Southern was at Harborside was in 2015 when the Dawgs placed third in the MVC Championship.
Â
O'Brien said that the course has the conditions the team should play in at the MVC Preview on October 16-17.
Â
"Our focus is just going out there and learning to manage our game in windy conditions and minimizing our mental mistakes," O'Brien said. "Our competition is the course. We are chasing 'old man par'. Â It is our goal just to play to our potential."
Â
Senior Hanna Netisingha will be leading the team in the one spot for the tournament. She is the only player on the Salukis that played at the MVC Championship in 2015. She finished tied for 12th at the tournament.
Â
Moyea Russell, Alice Ho, Emilyee McGiles and Lili Klekner-Alt will all be traveling to Chicago as well. Erica Kerr will be competing as an individual.
Â
The Salukis start play on Monday at 11:30 a.m. and continues on Tuesday beginning at 8:20 a.m.
