
SIU Men's Tennis Defeats McKendree University

The Saluki men's tennis team dominated on Saturday in its 6-1 win over McKendree University. SIU is now 4-0 in the all-time series against the Bearcats.
In doubles play, the Dawgs swept McKendree winning all three sets. Michal Kianicka and Daniel Martinez defeated Ben Muller and Abel Moreno, 7-6 ,in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Alex Pozo and Piotr Baranski beat Johnny Hu and Ethan McCafferty, 6-3. And Wilder Pimentel and Param Pun defeated Maico Egbers and Ognjen Jevtic, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles.
The Salukis also controlled singles play by a 5-1 margin. Daniel Martinez and Peter Molloy's matches went into a tie breaker, which Peter ultimately won.
On Sunday, SIU plays its last match of the weekend against Washington University. Wash U is currently ranked No. 4 in Division III tennis.
"We expect Wash U to be our toughest test of the weekend," said Jonny Rigby, the graduate assistant and coach of the team. "I'm anticipating a really high-level match tomorrow. Our focus is always to compete hard and scrap for every point."
The final match of the weekend against Wash U is set for 11 a.m. at University Courts.
