The Southern Illinois football program raised more than $5,000 to help fight hunger in southern Illinois while volunteering for the Souper Bowl of Caring on Saturday.Â
Members of the Saluki Football program volunteered at seven different locations in Carbondale and Murphysboro. Donations from Carbondale benefited Good Samaritan Ministries, and donations from Murphysboro benefited the Murphysboro Foot Pantry.
"The money the guys collected will provide a "sky's the limit" opportunity to purchase thousands of pounds of food to share with the approximately 875 families (over 3200 individuals) we serve each month," said Jane Williams, the Director of the Murphysboro Food Pantry.Â
The Saluki football program has annually participated in the event since 2004.Â
