Continuing their busy spring break tour, the Southern Illinois men's tennis team improved to 10-2 on the season by defeating Alabama A&M, 7-0, on Sunday.
The Salukis swept two of the three doubles matches, giving them the doubles point. Michal Kianicka and Daniel Martinez defeated Cristian Bigott and Nishangan Nadaraja (6-1) in No. 1 doubles. Piotr Baranski and Peter Molloy defeated Jarib Beazer and Armando Gray (6-0) in No. 3 doubles. Wilder Pimentel and Param Pun did not finish their match in No. 2 doubles.
The Dawgs then dominated in singles play, winning matches in all six spots — Baranski at No. 1, Pimentel at No. 2, Kianicka at No. 3, and Martinez, Pun and Molloy at the four, five and six respectively.
"We did a good job of staying focused today and getting the job done," coach Jonny Rigby said. "I think today will prepare us well for our last two matches against Alabama State and Troy."
On Monday, the Dawgs will play at Alabama State. The Hornets are 4-10 on the season. This is the first-time SIU will play Alabama State. Match time is set for 11 a.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.
