Brooke Cusumano is in fifth place
After an opening day of golf which lasted for nearly 11 hours, the Saluki women's golf team is in a tie for fourth at the Bradley Spring Break Invite in Dallas, Texas.

Southern, which was in second after the opening round, had a slow start to the second round. However, it fought back to jump up the leaderboard in the waning holes of the day to pass Akron for fourth place. Of six Missouri Valley Conference teams in the field, Southern is the third highest on the leaderboard. The Salukis are eight strokes back from third place Wichita State.

Northern Illinois is pacing the field. The Huskies have a 12-stroke lead over second place Bradley.

Individually, senior Brooke Cusumano leads the way for SIU. She is in fifth after shooting a 72 in the opening round and 76 in the second. Cusumano is averaging an under-par score on par 5s at 4.75 strokes per hole. With a strong performance tomorrow, a runner-up finish could be in sight for Cusumano. She is two strokes out of a tie for second place.

Junior Hanna Netisingha is in a tie for 13th after shooting a 76 in the first round and 77 in the second. Netisingha stumbled at the start of the second round going seven-strokes over par in the first five holes. However, the junior put a gritty performance on display for the remainder of the day. She carded three birdies and two bogeys to go one stroke under par for rest of the round.

Northern Illinois's Brielle Ward has the overall lead in the event. She had one of just two under-par rounds in the tournament and leads Wichita's Taryn Torgerson and Akron's Danielle Nicholson by seven strokes.

The Salukis are tied for the lead in par 4 scoring with Illinois State. The two teams are averaging 4.38 strokes per par 4. However, Southern, which usually scores well on par 3's, struggled on the shorter holes today. The team is in seventh after averaging 3.52 strokes per par 3. The Salukis are tied for third for most pars in the tournament with 50. They're just one par out of a three-way tie for first.
