Matt Greenfield named MVC Golfer of the Week

Southern Illinois senior Matt Greenfield was named co-Missouri Valley Conference golfer-of-the week, along with Illinois State's Trent Wallace. They both tied for 14th place at the Seminole Intercollegiate last weekend, hosted by Florida State.
Greenfield shot a career-best minus-6 and had 13 birdies on 54 holes. He fired under-par rounds of 69, 71 and 70 to lead the Salukis, who finished in 8th place out of 14 teams. This marks the third time in Greenfield's career that he's earned MVC golfer-of-the-week honors. Wallace produced the lowest round of his career Sunday, when he fired a 5-under-par 67 in the final round. Sunday's conditions were perhaps the most difficult of the tournament with high winds and tough pin locations.
The 14-team field was loaded, with three teams ranked in the GolfStat Top 50 (Georgia Tech - 24th, Florida State - 31st, Jacksonville - 32nd). Penn State won the event with a 31-under-par 833, with Georgia Tech and Florida State tying for second place at -28. Overall, eight teams finished under par, including SIU (284-290-285=859).
