The Southern Illinois baseball team opens Missouri Valley Conference play with a three-game series against Evansville in Itchy Jones Stadium. The series is the first of seven MVC series and the first of four the Southern will host in Carbondale.

SIU hosts Evansville for a three-game series over the weekend. All three games will be streamed through ESPN3.
The Salukis won two out of three against Evansville last year. SIU won the first two games and dropped the finale.
SIU leads the all-time series 100-64.
Connor Kopach leads the MVC in stolen bases with 13. Ryan Smith is third in the league with eight; and Greg Lambert is tied for fourth with seven.
SIU has stolen 45 bases, which is 19 more than anyone else in the MVC (Bradley has stolen 26). Southern Illinois ranks 11th nationally in stolen bases.
Evansville is second in the league in runners picked off.
Michael Baird leads the MVC in ERA at 1.49. Baird pitched seven shutout innings against Evansville last year.
Ryan Netemeyer leads the MVC with eight saves. He ranks seventh nationally in saves.
Nick Hutchins has thrown out seven would-be base stealers, a mark that is second in the MVC.
Greg Lambert leads SIU with 26 RBIs, which is tied with Missouri State's Jake Burger for second in the MVC.
Connor Kopach (11), Greg Lambert (10) and Nick Hutchins (8) give SIU three of the top seven in the MVC in doubles. Evansville's Trey Hair leads the league with 13.
As a team, SIU ranks second in the MVC with 55 doubles.
SIU has turned 23 double plays this year, which ranks second in the league. Since the start of the 2015 season, SIU has turned the most double plays in the MVC.
Will Farmer is the toughest to strikeout in the MVC among qualified batters. He has struck out just 10 times in 104 at-bats. He has struck out just once in his last 32 plate appearances.
