
Hawkeyes snap Salukis seven-match win streak

The Iowa Hawkeyes edged the Saluki men's tennis team, 4-3 on a Friday in Iowa City, Iowa.
The loss snaps a seven-match win streak for the Salukis, who fall to 7-2 on the season. The Hawkeyes improve to 8-3 on the year and take an 8-7 lead in the all-time series against the Salukis.
At No. 1 singles, Piotr Baranski defeated Josh Silverstein 6-1, 6-2. Wilder Pimentel won No. 2 singles against Lefteris Theodorou 6-3, 6-1. And Alex Pozo won at No.4 singles, 6-4, 7-6 over Robin Haden.
The difference was the doubles point, which featured two highly-contested matches. The No.1 doubles team of Kianicka and Daniel Martinez fell by a narrow margin, 6-4. And Pimentel and Pun lost in No.3 doubles after moving to a tie-breaking round, 7-6 (7-3).
The No. 58 nationally ranked duo of Pozo and Baranski won No. 2 singles 7-6
Despite the loss, coach Jonny Rigby was pleased with his team's effort against their Big Ten foe.
"We were so close to pulling off an upset today," Rigby said. "Today is a sign of how far our program has come, we went toe-to-toe with one of the most prestigious programs around."
The Salukis return home on Thursday to take on the St. Louis University Billikens. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
