Baranski earns Newcomer of the Week honors

CARBONDALE, ILL. - The Missouri Valley Conference announced their weekly awards today, and Southern Illinois' own, Susie Baranski, has been tabbed as the 'Newcomer of the Week'. It is the first weekly award the Salukis have earned this season.Â
In her first ever Coach B Classic, Susie Baranski, batted .692, picking up nine hits in 13 at bats and had at least one in every single game. The freshman led the Salukis in hits, batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, runs, and walks in the four-game stretch. Her best game was against Murray State, where she went 3-4 and scored two critical runs for the Salukis. Her on base percentage and her slugging percentage were above .700, being nearly impossible to keep off the base paths for any pitcher. Once on the base paths she also proved to be a threat stealing, swiping two bags in two attempts. After the weekend, Baranski now leads the Salukis in hits, being the first player to reach the 20-hit mark.
