CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois men's golf coach Justin Fetcho announced today that the program has signed Ollie White, who is currently the No. 11-ranked junior college player in the country.
A native of Harrogate, England, White plays for Tyler Junior College, which is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation and will be competing in the NJCAA National Championship in Mesa, Arizona, at Longbow Golf Club, May 23-26.Â
White was a PING All-American during his freshman year and finished fifth at the 2016 NJCAA National Championship with rounds of 70-74-72-70. He holds a 72.9 scoring average during his two seasons at Tyler, finished runner-up in four collegiate events and in the top five in six tournaments this season.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Ollie to our program," Fetcho said. "Playing for the top-ranked JUCO team in the country, his experience in that environment will not only help him transition well here, but I believe will help him make an immediate impact on our program."
Prior to Tyler, White won the Yorkshire Boys Under-18 Championship in 2013. Previous winners of that event include 2016 Masters Champion Danny Willet and European Tour champion Matt Fitzpatrick. He also placed fifth at the Scottish Youth's Championship in 2016.
"Ollie has a strong work ethic and desire to continue to get better and I know he will be a big part of our future," Fetcho added. "His addition will add to the depth and competitive environment of our team and we are looking forward to getting him on campus in the fall."
