Harre and Patterson named to Academic All-District teams

CARBONDALE, ILL. - Seniors, Shaye Harre and Merri Anne Patterson, were named to Academic All-District teams, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday. Harre was a first-team selection and Patterson was a second-team selection.
Patterson currently holds a 3.9 GPA in Exercise Sciences. This season Patterson entered the history books cracking the top ten in home runs, blasting 22 home runs in her career, which is No. 7 all-time in SIU history. Patterson also missed the consecutive stolen bases record without being caught by three, ending her streak at 27. She currently leads the team in RBIs with 37 and is second in hits with 44. This is Patterson's first Academic All-District honor.
This is the third time in Harre's career that she has been named to the first team, earning the honor the previous two seasons. This season Harre became SIU's all-time leader in RBIs (149), and is currently No. 2 in doubles (46), No. 5 in home runs (30), and No. 8 in career batting average (327). She also set the single season walks record with 50 and is No. 5 in the country in walks per game. Harre has a 3.9 GPA in Animal Sciences.Â
Harre was one of 11 student-athletes in District 5 named to the First Team. District 5 is comprised of all Division I universities in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Harre is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on May 25. Last season Harre became Southern Illinois softball's 25th Academic All-American in program history, ranking second nationally behind Nebraska (29).
