Nebo is one of four to earn a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship from the conference.
Southern Illinois women's basketball's Kim Nebo has been named a recipient of the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference postgraduate scholarship, MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Friday morning.
To be eligible for consideration, recipients must have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.40, participated with distinction in a Missouri Valley Conference championship sport for at least two seasons at the nominating institution and must graduate from their institutions within 18 months following selection at the spring meetings of the Faculty Athletics Representative Committee.Â
Also, the recipients must be accepted for postgraduate studies at an institution of higher learning at the time of receipt of the scholarship. And, the recipients must have completed eligibility for participation in intercollegiate athletics in the academic year in which nominated.
Nebo finished the season ranked sixth in the conference in rebounds per game (7.3) and leaves Southern Illinois ranked 24th all-time in career rebounds with 489. Her nine double-doubles were the second-most in the MVC this past season. The native of Katy, Texas, was a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete selection while starting 27 of SIU's 31 games in 2016-17. She graduated summa cum laude from SIU, earning her bachelor's degree in biological sciences and plans to attend the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Nebo earned a spot on the Dean's List in each of her eight semesters at SIU and spent countless hours volunteering for multiple organizations in the Carbondale community, including the Carbondale Boys and Girls Club, Strong Survivors project, Toys for Tots, and the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce.
Nebo was joined by Bradley's Elena Danielson (women's cross country); Paul Steeno of Illinois State (men's track); and Alex Jefferson of Missouri State (baseball) as recipients of MVC postgraduate scholarships. The Missouri Valley Conference Faculty Athletics Representatives Committee voted to award postgraduate scholarships to the four student-athletes, due to their exemplary academic and athletic performances. Each will receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship from the Conference.
