Men's Golf team recognized by GCAA for academic achievement

The Southern Illinois men's golf team was recognized on Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America for it academic performance during the 2016-17 school year. The Salukis were named an All-Academic Team, which requires a team GPA of 3.0 or better.Â
Georgia State posted the highest overall team GPA for all divisions with a 3.85. A total of 187 teams submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher to earn All-Academic Team recognition. Other Missouri Valley Conference schools recognized by the GCAAÂ were Bradley, Drake and Evansville. SIU's men's golf team opened last season with a tournament championship at the Murray State Invitational and finished the season with a fifth-place showing at the MVC Championships.

*Best ranked strength of schedule in school history (competed against 18 Top 25, 36 Top 50, 62 Top 100 teams)
*Peyton Wilhoit was named to the MVC All-Conference Team for the 2nd straight year (1st time since Brian Norman did it in 2004 & 2005)
*Peyton Wilhoit also posted a Top 15 single season scoring average in school history (74.3)
*Frankie Thomas tied the best single round in school history (64 at Murray State Invitational)
*Sam Meek tied the 9th best single round in school history (67 at Boilermaker Invitational)
*Team shot 2nd lowest 54 hole total in school history (840 at Murray State Invitational)
*Team tied the 6th best single round in school history (280 at Murray State Invitational)
