Southern Illinois stands in 11th place out of 15 teams after Day One of the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which features seven of the top 100 teams in the country.
The Salukis (+5)Â shot 293 as a team in Sunday's round and SIU is just two strokes away from being in the top five of the tournament. North Carolina State leads the field at -14
As a team, the Salukis recorded a total of 14 birdies in round one, Frankie Thomas (-3) and Sam Meek (-1) had five each. A sophomore, Thomas ended the day tied for fifth with a 69, marking the fourth time in his career he's broken 70. Meek currently is tied for 13th.
