Men's Golf moves up two slots to 9th at Iowa Golfweek Challenge

Southern Illinois moved up two slots into a tie for ninth place out of 15 teams on Day Two of the Iowa Golfweek Conference Challenge on Monday. The Salukis (+12) are tied with San Jose State and trail tournament leader North Carolina (-16) by 28 strokes. SIU is in position, however, to make a run at the top six, trailing sixth-place Eastern Michigan (+9) by three strokes.

Individually, SIU sophomore Frankie Thomas (-4) is still in the running for medalist honors. He is tied for sixth place and is only four strokes off the pace set by Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong (-8). Thomas followed up yesterday's 3-under par score with a 1-under par today. He has eight birdies after 36 holes. Another strong performer for Southern has been Luke Gannon (+4), who is tied for 38th place. Gannon leads the field at 4-under on par 5 holes.

The final round begins on Tuesday morning.
