Tyjuana Eason broke her own school record in the 200m dash and Shafiqua Maloney posted a top-10 school mark in the 400m dash to lead the Salukis at the Black and Gold Premier, hosted by the University of Iowa Saturday.
Eason broke her own school record to win the 200m dash with a time of 24.47. It marked the second time in three meets that the Kankakee, Ill. native has set a lifetime-best in the event and she currently has the second-best time in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Shafiqua Maloney recorded an indoor lifetime-best in the 400m dash to win for the third time this season. Maloney won with a time of 55.84, which is the eighth-fastest time in program history.Â
The Salukis notched two top-five finishes in the women's 60m hurdles, as Kilee Hagerstrand finished third and Mesha Newbold took fifth. Hagerstand ran 8.66 to record her best time since the Saluki Fast Start while Newbold ran a season-best 8.70.
The Saluki 4x400 relay team of Newbold, Chrissa Harris, Eason and Maloney took second with a time of 3:46.24, which would be the second-best mark in the MVC if SIU didn't already have the best time at 3:45.38, set at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 19, 2018.
Warren Hazel posted two top-five finishes at the Black and Gold Premier, as he was the runner-up in the 400m dash and finished fourth in the 200m. Hazel ran 47.52 in the 400m and 21.81 in the 200m.
Kevin Turner moved into seventh on SIU's all-time list in the 60m hurdles with his time of 8.24. Turner advanced to Saturday's final, where he ran 8.30 to finish seventh.
The Salukis are back in action on Feb. 2-3 when they host the Don DeNoon Invitational. The third annual meet gets underway Friday with the weight throw, pole vault, long jump and the women's high jump.
