NOTRE DAME, IND. – The Southern Illinois Men's Golf team heads to the University of Notre Dame for the Fighting Irish Classic. Teams from all regions will be competing this weekend including, Georgia Southern, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, NIU, Southern Alabama, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Wisconsin, and host Notre Dame.
The team competing this weekend includes Luke Gannon, Peyton Wilhoit, Matthis Besard, Vikar Jonasson, and Hunter York.
The Fighting Irish Classic will be played on the Warren Golf Course, named one of the nation's top 15 on-campus collegiate layouts by Golfweek. It's been hailed as one of the best courses in the U.S. by Golf Digest. The course built in 2000 features short distances between the greens and tees as it winds it's way through 250 wooded acres on the edge of the Notre Dame Campus.
The Salukis had about two weeks of rest and practice after three tournaments in a row. "It's been good to have a little bit of a break," said head coach Justin Fetcho. "With these nine or ten days that we've had, we've been working hard and getting ready for Notre Dame. We've put ourselves in a good position, we're ready".
Practice round will be held Saturday, October 6th. Rounds one and two will be held Sunday, October 7th with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. ET. Round three will be Monday, October 8th with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. ET.
