CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University football player Jacob Marnin was named a Division I First-Team Google Cloud Academic All-American on Monday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A criminology and criminal justice major with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Marnin is the 15th player in program history to earn Academic All-American status and the 10th first-team selection. Overall, SIU now has 97 Academic All-Americans in school history — a total that leads the conference and is proudly displayed above the scoreboard at Saluki Stadium. The football program has produced nine Academic All-Americans in the last nine years.
Marnin has started all three seasons on Southern's offensive line and is the active leader in career starts (29) for the Salukis. He started nine games at center this season, missing two due to injury, and helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 30 points and 431 yards per game and featured 1,000-yard rusher D.J. Davis. Marnin was also named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic Team. He was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2017.
