Men's Golf in 13th place at Desert Intercollegiate after second round

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Southern Illinois men's golf team stands in 13th place out of 23 teams after the second round of the Desert Intercollegiate on Saturday. SIU's Peyton Wilhoit continued his stellar play and is tied for third place on the leaderboard at 8-under par.

The Salukis (+10) got off to a good start in round one, ending the day tied for seventh place, but slipped six spots today and trail tournament leader Cal by 37 strokes. With a strong final round on Sunday, though, they can reach the top 10 as they are only two strokes behind 10th place UT-Arlington.

After shooting a 66 in round one, Wilhoit carded a 70 today. He has 11 of the team's 29 birdies, while Luke Gannon (+4) has six and Dirk Kuehler (+7) has five. Gannon moved up 27 places in the standings to 57th with an even par round today.
