CARBONDALE, IL - The Salukis finished the Desert Intercollegiate tied for 14^th place with Stephen F. Austin after three rounds. The Salukis came into round one strong and finished day one tied for seventh. After round two they were standing strong in 13^th place.

The team had a total of 39 birdies throughout the tournament. Junior Peyton Wilhoit (-6) shot 13 birdies throughout the tournament. Hunter York (+16) and Luke Gannon (+8) both shot seven birdies.

Junior Peyton Wilhoit (-6) finished tied for 10^th place in a field of 135 tough competitors from around the country. "A top 10 finish with this kind of field is just another confidence builder for him," said head Coach Justin Fetcho. "I think Peyton is starting to realize he can compete with anyone in college golf. This is just another event that shows he is a true competitor that isn't afraid to play anyone."

Coach Justin Fetcho and the team take each tournament as a learning experience, "Each person was exposed in one way or another at this event. We need to work on fine tuning our individual weaknesses but as a team we must also work on getting sharper with our short irons so we can make more birdies. We also have to continue to work on controlling our golf ball so we can minimize missing in the wrong spots."

SIU Men's Golf heads back to Carbondale to prepare for their next tournament, the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida on February 24-25.
