Kern, Roberson named MVC Field Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois throwers Jared Kern and Alexis Roberson have been named Missouri Valley Conference Field Athletes of the Week following their performances at the EIU Friday Night Special, the conference announced Tuesday.
This marks the third time that Kern has taken home the honor this season, and the eighth time that he has done so in his career. It is also the third time that Roberson has earned the award this season.
Jared Kern | Sr. | Machesney Park, Ill.
Jared Kern won the shot put at the EIU Friday Night Special with a season-best toss of 65'-5.5". Kern's mark at Friday's last chance meet bolsters his MVC lead in the event and ranks as the fifth-best mark in the nation.
Alexis Roberson | So. | Jefferson City, Mo.
Alexis Roberson won the weight throw at the EIU Friday Night Special with a mark of 65' (19.81m). Roberson threw 65' (19.81m) on both her third and fifth throws to win the event and has now thrown 65-plus feet four times this season. Roberson is ranked 26th in the weight nationally and has the top mark in the MVC this season.
The Salukis are next at the 2018 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa, beginning Saturday, Feb. 24.
