
Swimming closes out 2017-18 at the CSCAA National Invite

The Saluki swim team put a bow on the 2017-18 season today at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships in Annapolis, Maryland.

Senior Bryn Handley had the best day, closing out what has been a phenomenal career with a third-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Her time of 16:31.96 beat the previous CSCAA National Invite record and was the fourth-fastest time in program history.

Handley's swim in the event closed out a career that saw her win six individual conference titles, two MVC Elite-18 Awards and four All-MVC selections.

In the women's 100-yard IM, junior Emma Brazeau placed seventh in the B final with a time of 58.02. Fellow junior Abby Kresal placed 21st overall with a time of 1:00.34

Sophomore Rita Naude was 64th overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.64.

In the men's 200-yard butterfly, junior Chris Cole closed out a strong season and meet with a 17th place finish with a time of 1:52.27.

Overall, the women's team placed 15th with a score of 83 points. Southern's women were just half of a point behind Toledo in 14th. Florida International placed first in the women's half of the CSCAA National Invitational Championships. For the men Southern placed 17th despite having just one swimmer compete in the meet.

With the completion of the CSCAA National Invitational Championships and yesterday's conclusion of the NCAA Zone C Diving meet, the Saluki swimming and diving season has come to a conclusion.
