Kern named MVC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois thrower Jared Kern has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week following his performance at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic, the conference announced Tuesday.

This marks the fourth time that Kern has taken home the honor this season, and the ninth time that he has done so in his career.

Jared Kern cruised to a win in the shot put at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic over the weekend. The two-time national qualifier threw 64'-2.5" (19.57m) on his final attempt Saturday to win the event by more than six feet. The Machesney Park, Ill. native currently ranks third in the west region, and fourth in the NCAA, in the event.
