Carmien, Iwema, Neal named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas -Â The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today that Southern Illinois football players Hans Carmien, Connor Iwema, and Ryan Neal are among the members of the 2018 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
Carmien earned All-MVFC and MVFC All-Academic honors after his senior season. He played in 42 games in his career as Southern's starting fullback and caught five touchdown passes. Connor Iwema orignally came to SIU as a walk-on and ended his career with 98 career receptions for 1,299 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had more than 500 yards receiving in each of the last two years. Ryan Neal earned All-MVFC honors as a senior and recorded 226 career tackles and five interceptions.Â
An all-time high 1,253 players from a record 303 schools qualified for membership in the society's 12th year. Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft) at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university; achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
