Price Breaks U.S. Hammer Record

Saluki alumna DeAnna Price, already the world leader in the hammer throw this spring, broke the American hammer throw record at the Iron Wood Throws Classic in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho on Saturday, June 2.

Price, a two-time NCAA Champion at Southern Illinois, threw 254'-9" (77.65m) on her second throw to break fellow Saluki alum Gwen Berry's national record of 251'-10" (76.77m). She had two throws in her series Saturday that bested the previous national record, as her sixth attempt also did as it sailed 253'-0" (77.11m).

"First (throw) was off the left sector but the second throw I just lined it up and tried to get connected as much as possible," said Price in a post-competition interview with runnerspace.com. "I had two throws at 77-meters, a (throw at) 75m and another at 74m, which is all together probably the best series I've had. There's more to come, I'm excited. God has really blessed me and I can't be more thankful for my coach, JC Lambert- he has really set me on the right path."
