Sixteen Southern Illinois University student-athletes were awarded the Missouri Valley Conference President's Council Academic Excellence Award, the league announced Tuesday.
The award requires a 3.8 cumulative grade point average through the spring semester, participation in a sport at least two years and enough credits to be within 18 hours of graduating. Southern's 16 honorees were second-most in the MVC behind Illinois State (18).
SIU's honorees were: Josh Maier, Alex Martinez, Natalia Hajduk, Jackie Biggs, Sydney Jones, Penny Bowser, Emma Brazeau, Nicole Fuller, Bryn Handley, Rachel Hauer, Jess Peck, Chandler Ott, Rachel Williams, Abby Barrow, Ashley Edelen, and Nellie Fredriksson.
