LAKE FOREST, Ill. – This weekend the Southern Illinois men's golf team travels to Lake Forest, Illinois for the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern, at the Knollwood Club. Knollwood's course was designed in 1925 by the golf course architecture firm of Colt and Alison.
The team competing this weekend includes Peyton Wilhoit, Luke Gannon, Frankie Thomas, Matthis Besard and Markus Wilhelmsen.
SIU head coach Justin Fetcho said, "We have a lot of depth on this year's team and we have five guys traveling this week that are playing some really good golf. We just need to stay disciplined and I believe we will have a great week."
This is the third weekend tournament in a row for the Salukis, the previous two being Indiana's Fuzzy Zoeller Intercollegiate where the team placed first, and Iowa's Golfweek Conference Challenge, where they placed eighth. They have only had a few days to prepare this tournament but they're ready.
"I think we have used our short week to get better," said Coach Fetcho. "We learned a lot about ourselves last week in Iowa and I believe that will make us better as we move forward in the season."
Practice round will be held Saturday, September 22nd. The first round begins with a shotgun start at 8:45 AM on Sunday, September 23rd with the second round following the completion of the first round with another shotgun start. The third round will be Monday, September 24th with tee times starting at 8 AM.
