
Salukis continue MVC road swing at Bradley on Sunday

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois women's basketball team continues its MVC road swing at Bradley on Sunday, Jan. 20. The Salukis and the Braves will tip-off for the 76th time Sunday at 2 p.m., and the contest can be viewed on ESPN+ and can be heard locally on MAGIC 95.1 FM. SIU has won eight-straight over Bradley and sixth-year head coach Cindy Stein is 15-1 all-time against her hometown team.
All-Time Series vs. Bradley
• The Salukis and the Braves will meet for the 76th time in a rivalry that dates back to 1983.
• Southern leads the all-time series, 50-25.
• SIU won 27-straight games against Bradley to open the rivalry, which, at the time, was the fourth-longest winning streak against one team in the nation.
• The Braves returned the favor winning 22 of the next 27 games.
• Southern has won eight-straight, and nine of the last 10 meetings, against Bradley which is the longest streak for the Salukis against the Braves since 1998-2001.
Scouting the Braves
• The Braves went 10-1 in non-conference play, with their 10 non-conference wins breaking the school record for most in a season.
• Bradley is since 2-3 in MVC play, most recently losing to Missouri State Friday night, 68-56.
• Gabi Haack comes into Sunday's tilt with the fourth-best points per game average in the Missouri Valley Conference at 16.2 ppg and she leads the Valley in 3's per game (2.9).
• Chelsea Brackmann leads the Valley in rebounds with an 11.0 rebounds per game average.
• Bradley is second in the MVC in points per game (72.4) and is holding foes to a league-low 37.3% from the field.
Current Salukis vs. the Braves
• Nicole Martin is averaging 9.5 points on 50% (12-of-24) shooting to go along with 4.8 rebounds. She is also 14-of-17 from the free throw line in her career vs. Bradley, including 5-of-5 from the charity stripe to seal SIU's win at Bradley on Jan. 12.
• Makenzie Silvey averaged 14.0 points on 54.5% (12-of-22) shooting in last year's sweep of the Braves.
• Silvey reached double figures in both games against Bradley a year ago, including 15 points on 60% shooting in last season's 62-53 win over the Braves at home.
• Abby Brockmeyer averaged a double-double with 10.5 points and 10.0 rebounds last season against Bradley. She tallied 12 points, 13 boards and three blocks at Bradley last season.
Mom knows best
• Celina VanHyfte's mom, Val, played basketball at Bradley from 1987-91 and was inducted into Bradley's Hall of Fame in 1995 after a career in which she scored 1,048 career points and is one of only two players in program history to have led the team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals in a single season.
• Her 788 career rebounds remain the third-most in Bradley history.
Nice to see you again
• Andrea Gorski spent three seasons, from 2013-16, as SIU's associate head coach under Cindy Stein.
• She was part of the largest single-season turnaround in program history, as well as SIU's first postseason appearance since 2007.
• As a player, Gorski was winless (0-9) against the Salukis, as she ran up against some of the best teams in Saluki history, which included the 1991-92 Salukis that won the program's second-ever NCAA Tournament game.
Good Track Record
• With SIU's 62-53 win over Bradley on Feb. 11, the Salukis improved to 9-1 against the Braves under the direction of head coach Cindy Stein.
• Stein, a Peoria, Ill. native, moved to 15-1 all-time in her coaching career against the Braves.
• Stein was an assistant coach at Bradley from 1988-93.
Thanks for the lift
• The Saluki reserves kept SIU in the game against Illinois State on Jan. 12- combining to score 12 points, which was the most for Southern's bench since scoring 16 points in the win over EIU on Dec. 8.
• It marks the seventh time this season that the bench as a hole has reached double figures.
• Southern's bench averages 9.4 points per game.

• Brittney Patrick currently leads the Valley, and ranks 7th nationally, in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.36).
• Patrick's 4.9 assists per game also leads the MVC while she also leads the league in total assists (74).
• SIU has only once had a player lead the league in assists per game (Cartaesha Macklin, 2013) and Patrick's 3.36 assist-to-turnover ratio would be a school record.
• In fact, only 13 players from the Valley have finished with a 2.0 or higher assist-to-turnover ratio since the 2002-03 season.

Third Times a Charm
• Makenzie Silvey tied her career-high in rebounds for the third time this season with seven boards at Missouri State on Jan. 13.
• It marked the sixth time this season that Silvey has snagged six or more rebounds in a game- she did so just twice in 31 games as a freshman.
• Silvey dished out career assist No. 100 against Illinois State to become the 35th Saluki with 500 career points/150 rebounds/100 assists.
• Silvey's 37 three-pointers this season already rank her sixth for most threes in a single season by a sophomore in school history.
• Silvey ranks second in the league in three-pointers made (37), three-pointers attempted (111), and three-pointers made per game (2.5).
• Scored 13 points at Illinois State- which marked the fourth-straight game, and the eighth time in her last nine games, in which she has reached double figures.
Closing in on 500
• Abby Brockmeyer enters Sunday's tilt just nine points shy of 500 for her career.
• When she reaches the 500-point milestone, Brockmeyer will become the 16th Saluki with at least 500 career points/300 rebounds/50 assists/50 blocks.
• Brockmeyer is currently top-5 in the league in double-doubles (2nd, 7), blocks per game (4th, 1.07) and rebounds per game (2nd, 8.8).
800 points/400 rebounds
• Nicole Martin scored her 800th career point at Missouri State on Jan. 13.
• She is the 26th Saluki with at least 800 career points and 400 career boards.
Leading the Way
• Nicole Martin made her first 11 attempts from the floor in the win over Evansville on Jan. 4 and finished 11-for-12.
• Martin's 91.7% field goal percentage is tied for the fifth-best single game performance in NCAA DI this season and was the best by a Saluki with at least 10 attempts since Dyana Pierre made 14-of-14 attempts from the floor in SIU's win over Murray State on Dec. 16, 2014.
• Martin has now scored in double figures in 11 of SIU's 15 games this season and in 41 of 77 career games.
• Martin is shooting 55.2% from the field this season- which currently ranks her second in the Valley and 34th nationally.
Disrupting Passing Lanes
• Southern has notched 10-plus steals in six games this season, including a streak of five-straight games.
• SIU's five-game streak of 10-plus steals was its longest since the 1994-95 team posted six-straight games with 10 or more takeaways.
• The Salukis are 5-1 this season when recording 10-plus steals and are 19-9 (.678) under Coach Cindy Stein when doing so.
RPI
• The Missouri Valley Conference currently has six teams with top-175 RPIs, according to Warrennolan.com.
• Drake leads the way at No. 14. Northern Iowa (No. 76), Missouri State (No. 110), Indiana State (No. 149), SIU (No. 167) and Illinois State (No. 172) are all currently in the top half of the NCAA In RPI.
