Track and Field concludes day one at Indiana Relays

Southern Illinois sprinter Tyjuana Eason was the runner-up in the 200m dash and clocked the third-fastest qualifying time in the 60m dash to lead the Salukis on day one at the Indiana Relays Friday night.Â
Eason finished second out of 34 runners in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 24.27. The Kankakee, Ill. native also advanced on to tomorrow's 60m dash final after she ran the third-fastest qualifying time at 7.56.
Eason was one of three Salukis to advance to tomorrow's finals. Theo Phipps clocked the second-best qualifying time in the 60m hurdles and tied his personal-best with a mark of 8.18. Savannah Long also qualified for tomorrow's 60m hurdles final after she ran 9.12 to take fourth in her heat.Â
In the circle, SIU volunteer coach DeAnna Price opened her season with a U.S.-leading toss of 80'-7.50" (24.57m) to win the weight throw. Price's mark is the 11th-best toss in U.S. indoor history. Alexis Roberson, the reigning MVC Field Athlete of the Week, finished third in the event with a throw of 68'-3.25" (20.81m).Â
In the multis, Matthew Bigelow tallied 2,878 points through four events thanks to three top-3 finishes, including a win in the long jump. The Carterville, Ill. native opened his day with a runner-up finish in the 60m dash at 7.11 and followed with a win in the long jump after he cleared 21'-11.75" (6.70m). Bigelow then set a three-foot PR in the shot put to finish sixth before ending his day with a third place finish in the high jump.
Day two of the Indiana Relays gets underway at 9 a.m. with multi-events and wraps up 2:30 p.m. with the women's 4x400 relay.Â
