CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois center Jacob Marnin added another academic honor to his portfolio on Friday when he was named to the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) All-Star Team. He was one of 47 players nationwide selected to the team.
A criminology and criminal justice major with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Marnin was also selected as an Academic All-American in December and named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic Team shortly after the season ended in November.
A fourth-year junior, Marnin has started all three seasons on Southern's offensive line and is the active leader in career starts (29) for the Salukis. He started nine games at center this season, missing two due to injury, and helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 30 points and 431 yards per game and featured 1,000-yard rusher D.J. Davis.
A special Review Committee of FCS athletics directors was responsible for selecting the 2018 All-Star Team and FCS ADA Postgraduate Scholarship finalists. This year's review committee consisted of: Bill Smith, Bryant University (Chair); Nathan Pine, College of the Holy Cross; Kent Haslam, University of Montana; Ashley Robinson, Jackson State University; and Thorr Bjorn, University of Rhode Island.
