CARBONDALE, Ill. - The SIU men's basketball team's exhibition game against Minnesota State on October 22 will be Community Appreciation Night. All single-game tickets are discounted to 50 percent off, posters will be given out, and the team will sign autographs after the game. Order them by calling 877-SALUKIS or by visiting SIUSalukis.com/tickets.Â
The Salukis will also be honoring community members during the game. Additionally, several local charities will have booths set up in the Charles Helleny Pavilion, including Good Samaritan Ministries, Veterans Honor Flight, Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts of America, the Women's Center, IlliniCare Health, and Southern Illinois Wellness.Â
"Our fans' dedication and support is incredible, and this initiative is a way to show our appreciation," Director of Athletics Liz Jarnigan said. "Along with our ongoing commitment to community service, we hope this demonstrates our desire to serve the community as much as they continue to help us."
Saluki Athletics finished fourth in all of Division I in community service hours in 2018-19, volunteering a combined 5,366 hours to the community. Five individual sports finished in the top-10 nationally in community service hours among their sports, led by men's and women's swimming and diving, which each led the nation among all swimming programs.Â
SIU season ticket holders will have tickets and parking passes for the October 22 game mailed to them individually. The season ticket package with tickets and parking to every regular season home game will arrive in the mail prior to the November 5 regular-season opener.Â
The Salukis will also host a Fan Fest on October 30 at 6:30 p.m. in Banterra Center. All fans and children are invited to meet coaches and players from both the men's and women's basketball teams with interactive activities.Â
