Salukis finish 12th at Johnie Imes Invitational

The Salukis women's golf team finished in 12th place at the Johnie Imes Invitational. Missouri, the tournament host, finished in first place after shooting back-to-back 289 rounds for a total of 868 (+4). Oral Roberts carded 289Â (+11) in the third round, but it was not enough to close the gap as they finished runner-up by 7-strokes.
Southern Illinois made strides towards the top of the field in the second round and were only 3-strokes out of the top-10 at the end of day two. Shooting a 308 in the third and final round, SIU finished with a tournament total of 919 (+55). The 12th place finish is the lowest regular season tournament finish under Danielle Kaufman since she was hired as head coach in 2018.
Junior Emilyee McGiles carded 73 (+1) in the third round, finishing tied for 28th place at 10-over par. Senior Erica Kerr (+11) and freshman Ayanna Habeel (+14) both had 7 birdies in the tournament, finishing with totals of 227 and 230. Moyea Russell (+20) shot even par in the second round, a team best, and placed 61st. Initially withdrawing from the second round due to an illness, Megan Breslin fought through and competed in the final round, shooting 83 (+22).
The Salukis will be back on the course two weeks from now when they compete at the Lady Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The two day tournament is set to begin October 14, 2019.Â
