
Five Things to Know: SIU at Dartmouth

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Salukis (4-9-2 overall) take to the road for the last time this season as they face the Dartmouth College Big Green (8-5) on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Salukis are coming off of a 2-0 loss to SIUE on Oct. 18. SIU battled SIUE early on but gave up a goal in the eighth minute to fall behind 1-0. SIU attempted to claw their way back into the match before SIUE put it out of reach with a late goal to win it 2-0.
2. SCOUTING DARTMOUTH: The Big Green are in the midst of a two-game skid and are most recently coming off a 1-0 loss to Penn on Oct. 19. Freshman forward Allie Winstanley leads the team in goals with seven, while sophomore forward Izzy Glennon trails with five. Senior mid Zoe Boocock is the team leader in assists with four, followed by Winstanley with three. Winslanley and Glennon have combined for 60 of the Big Green's 145 shots, with 30 of those shots coming on goal.
In goal, junior Mariel Gordon leads the team in minutes (1060:44), saves (38), wins (7) and shutouts (3). Freshman goalie Charlotte Cyr is the only other goalkeeper to see time on the field this season, as she has played in 113:01 minutes and has recorded eight saves and one win in that time. The Big Green are coached by sixth-year head coach Ron Rainey, who owns a 48-36-12 while with Dartmouth. Prior to Dartmouth, Rainey made stops at Iowa, Ball State, Townson, Cincinnati and UW-Parkside.
3. SALUKI STATS: Freshman forward Liz Brechtel leads the team in goals with three, followed by fellow classmate Emma Spotak with two. Senior Andrea Rodriguez and freshman Kaitlin DuCharme share the team lead in assists with two, while Brechtel leads the team in overall points with six. Paityn Schneider, Madison Meiring and Brechtel have combined for 64 shots with 24 coming on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Dariana Mihalache has started in 14 of 15 total games this season, compiling over 1,093 minutes, 86 saves, two wins and a shutout over that span. Her 86 saves rank 36th in the country, while her 5.46 saves per game are good for 37th.
4. FOLLOW THE SALUKIS: Tuesday's match will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats can be found here. The match will be played on Burnham Field, where the Big Green hold a 4-1 record this season.
