Avante Cox named MVFC Player of the Week/Newcomer of the Week

Southern Illinois wide receiver Avante Cox was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Sunday night.
Cox led the Salukis to a 48-28 win at South Dakota with 193 yards of offense. On the team's second play from scrimmage, he took a jet sweep, barreled through a pair of tacklers at the line of scrimmage and raced 65 yards to the USD 10. It was the first of many big plays for the Wyoming transfer, who caught eight passes for 113 yards, rushed for 80 yards, and scored three touchdowns.
A sophomore transfer from Wyoming, Cox caught an 11-yard touchdown pass with nine seconds left before halftime to put Southern up, 34-7, and added a 33-yard catch for a TD to make it 41-14. Cox finished the scoring with a five-yard jet sweep for touchdown.
