
Five Things to Know: SIU at SEMO

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Salukis (4-7-1 overall) will look to snap a three-game skid when they travel to face the Southeast Missouri Redhawks on Sunday at 2 p.m.
1. LAST TIME OUT: SIU fell 4-1 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Sept. 29. SIU captured the 1-0 lead nearly a minute into the second half but failed to hold on as the Vaqueros went on to score four-straight goals in just over 20 minutes of play to seal the victory.
2. SCOUTING SEMO: The Redhawks are coming off of a 2-1 victory over SIUE on Thursday night to advance to 6-4 on the season. Cassidi Tomsu and Megan Heisserer share the team led in goals with three each, while Hailey Block and Esmie Gonzales are tied for second with two goal apiece. As a team, the Redhawks have been outscored 19-12 this year and have been outshot 159-119.
In goal, Bailey Redden has played in all possible minute (916:34) and has earned a 5-0 record with 19 saves. SEMO is coached by Heather Nelson, who has coached the program since its inception in 1999. In her 20 years at the helm, Nelson owns a 224-177-58 overall record and has led the Redhawks to 14 winning seasons.
3. SALUKI STATS: The Salukis are led in scoring by freshman forward Liz Brechtel with three goals, followed by Emma Spotak with two. Senior Andrea Rodriguez and freshman Kaitlin DuCharme share the team lead in assists with two apiece, while Brechtel leads in overall points with six. Kathryn Creedon, Madison Meiring and Brecthel each have recorded seven shots on goal out of 43 overall shots, good for a shot on goal percentage of 49% for the trio.
In goal, Dariana Mihalache has spent the most time on the field (803 minutes) out of the goalkeeping group and has seen success with 68 saves, a mark that's good for ninth in NCAA DI. As a unit, the Saluki goalkeepers average the 17th most saves per game in the country.

WE HAVE HISTORY: Sunday's matchup with the Redhawks marks the second time the two teams have seen each other this season, as the two foes faced each other in an exhibition match on Aug. 17 in front of a crowd of 2,150 at Lew Hartzog. SEMO won the exhibition 2-1 behind goals from Lauren Welker and Hannah Compernolle, while Brechtel knocked in the lone goal for the Salukis.
