PALM DESERT, Cali. – This weekend the Southern Illinois Men's Golf team travel to California to compete in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate for the second year in a row. The team competing includes Matthis Besard, Peyton Wilhoit, Luke Gannon, Markus Wilhelmsen, and Sean Mullan. The team is ready to get back on the golf course for redemption.
"We are looking to improve on the mistakes we made at the Gator and go out and play consistent golf. We need to be mentally tougher than we were last week and do a better job of controlling our emotions," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho. "I know the team is excited for the quick turnaround and to get out and compete again. Just like last week, this course makes you play disciplined and stay patient. As a coach, I'm looking forward to seeing how we respond this week."
The competition this weekend includes Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Kansas, Little Rock, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, TCU, Texas Tech, UC Riverside, UT Arlington, Western Carolina and Wyoming.
The teams will play at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. The Classic Club was designed by Arnold Palmer and has recently achieved certified by Audubon International.
Round one will be Friday, February 22nd, round two will be Saturday, February 23rd, and round three will be Sunday, February 24th. Each day will be a double-tee start off of holes one and ten starting at 7 a.m. PT. Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com.
